Ski & Splitboard Guide Internship

120-hours, over 20 weeks, November - March

Aspiring Backcountry Professionals

Buena Vista Mountain Adventures (BVMA) is now accepting applications for our 120-hour, partially compensated Ski & Splitboard Guide & Snow Professional Internship. This 20-week program is designed for individuals ready to take their first step into backcountry guiding and the snow industry. Launch your snow career with technical skills, real-world experience, and mentorship from trusted outdoor professionals. Interns will commit 5–20 hours per week from November through March. A detailed schedule will be shared during the interview process.

What You’ll Learn

Interns will receive hands-on, field-based training in:

  • Client communication and guiding professionalism

  • Tour planning and logistics

  • Terrain management and route selection

  • Snowpack observations

  • Risk assessment and decision-making in avalanche terrain

  • Group communication, pacing, and adapting to changing conditions

You’ll also shadow experienced guides and educators, gaining firsthand insight into what it takes to become a professional backcountry guide.

Prerequisites

  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification

  • A3-recognized Recreational Avalanche Level 1 (AIARE or equivalent)

  • 2+ seasons of backcountry skiing or splitboarding experience

  • Advanced in-bounds skiing or riding ability
